One senior officer that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker received the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver following a vehicle incident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera video shared by the force revealed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He struck the officer who stumbled and went down to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a clear shot, concluding the confrontation to an end.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need something on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and more cuts to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster received knife wounds.

Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stop his colleague's blood loss prior to medical personnel arrived.

This most recent honor follows subsequent to the law enforcement team were granted internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local union branch in spring 2024.

They additionally received a North West Bravery Award in mid-2024.

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by officials.
